I did some investigative work, locally in Williamsburg, and I discovered that ONE GASOLINE STATION on a corner, was told to hike the prices 15- to 20-cents overnight time after time this summer and right now, the end of October! Their purpose and goal was to manipulate prices by enticing other stations to do the same pracice. And do it quickly!
It is against THE law to manipulate prices, to collude, to conspire! That means that one person or business cannot talk with another business to make a deal to "set" prices, "in the dark of the night." Once upon a time, Pepsi and Coca-Cola execs in one area of Virginia DID conspire to manipulate prices, and actually were investigated and found guilty! of doing so.
Problem? Catching them, proving it! The 'government" wanted, I trust, to take the time to catch 'em.
BUT YOU have leverage, power! Pay attention, and do not spend your $$$ at a station that you see doing it. Are you brave enough to politely tell them, fact to face, that you will not buy their gasoline. Take back the power, the leverage!!!

403- WHY DOESN'T THIS SAVY AUTHOR and HISTORIAN VIEW and LISTEN to AREA RADIO, NOW?.....
A) NOR-f**k and SUF-f**k, that's why!
Enough of us are absolutely fed up with how the Virginia news media and personalities are using OUR free public airwaves to push their version of guttural language on to the rest of us. Please listen to the public broadcasted radion stations and TV stations when they pronounce, incorrectly, those two once respected and revered city names! And they, I understand now, are making a concerted attempt to emhasize the vulgar pronunciations on-air.
B) Someone who works inside one of the stations revealed that disgusting fact.
Even if one does not use the argument that they have a right to use the incorrect pronunciations, take a gander at the historical names from England. Take a look at the major dictionaries..."fok"! Nor-FOLK...Sur-FOLK....
C) And what is my biggest reasoning for pronouncing our great two cities?
Nor-FOLK is the historically correct name meaning "north folk." Suf-FOLK is a likewise historically correct name meaning "south folk."
See? Makes sense, huh? Ignorance and insipid intent on their part? Yes....
D) In conclusion? The many radio stations and television stations, especially their on-air personalities, when they use the incorrect, demeaning, guttural pronunciations, are simply IGNORANT and disrespectful to the proud, decent State of Virginia's history AND to the decent Virginians...that's us!
E) But I'm not finished. I did talk with, politely, some stations and personalities about using the correct historical pronuncations. I did write and send "letters to the editor" of the major area newspapers. No response...ignored. I did compose a letter to the local newspaper...ignored it! All of those actions, in my opinion, create a conspiracy behind our backs to collude! What makes it even worse is the point that "they" think that they have leverage, power! Remember, though, that this Virginia historian has yet begun to fight! Leverage has a way of reversing!!
F) Oh yes...forgot. LOVE my "XM RADIO!" No more freaking NOR-f**k and SUF-f**k. No more wall-to-wall commercials blasting negativism on political candidates. WHAT S SAY YOU?

401- CHRONOLOGICAL AGE VERSUS FUNCTIONAL AGE?.....
I'm not sure that "versus" is a proper usage of the comparison of the two concepts!
"Chronological age" is the actual numerical number attached to the birth year. "Functional age" is how one thinks and interacts both physically and mentally, period!
This researcher sees more and more generational gaps between the "young" and the "older" groups within our American society!! The way the "older" are treated in hospitals, dining, driving, medical care and even reunions when both age groups, broadly speaking, interact is this sociologist's main ponderable!
a) WHY is the chronological age usually brought up in so many ways? American society seems to have a fixation with "How OLD are you?" It's none of THEIR freaking business, period!
b) I remember, vididly, being seriously ill, in a hospital, six years ago. Someone came around one morning and closed all of the doors on the floor. When I asked 'why', no one would say why! Later, it slipped that someone had died, and closing the doors would shut out what really had happened to everyone else. Well, now, this guy did come back to good health, with pure grit and PMP..."positive mental power."

The second essay has been completed and will be published in the near future (Has been published, in Virginia Gazette)...the Sorority Court area, Lilliputian-size garden at Richmond and N. Boundary, the William III and Mary II statues at the entrance on Richmond Rd., the Joseph Shelton Watson Va. Historical marker (Class of 1801) at Scotland St. and......the Alumni House area!
By the way, a handful of previously published Virginia Gazette essays have spotlighted College of William and Mary original research on the 10+ miles of woodland trails...outdoor artworks...flower gardens...Wren Bldg....the Matoaka Lake Amphitheatre area.

Her father, in a sicko "honor killing" attempt in Arizona, severly injured his daughter by running into her with his car, trying to kill her...and then running to another state!! "She was too Westernized...." Noor was "married, as a youth, back in Iraq. At this very moment, Noor is in a "life-threatening condition" and not responding to anyone speaking to her, in the hospital. She needs your thoughts...please.

a- This pitchman is a relic from the '50s, learning his trade at one of those town carnivals or in the back of a K-Mart or selling 'snake oil' on "Gunsmoke." Notice that on all of these TV commercials trying to sell us something the price is always $19.95? Made in China? Look carefully, however, for the tiny S&H fee notation! You'll be socked with a good $12 to $16 extra!

b- Even more? He's sooo clever by telling you that you'll get another one free, just pay an EXTRA S&H....hmmmm. I don't want a 2nd one! I want them to cut the price in half for that first and only one! When ordering, did you ASK how much more for two, by the way?

396- OH MI GA!...ANOTHER VIRGINIA TECH STUDENT...MORGAN HARRINGTON!.....
MORGAN HARRINGTON, a Virginia Tech student, is missing...PLEASE keep her in your thoughts! She attended a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena at U.Va., went to the bathroom and was locked out of the arena when she tried to return to the concert....
(Update....parents have been on national TV asking for help!...Metallica has gotten involved, too! REWARD offered: $150,000! Family is offering $100,000 and Metallica has added $50,000)

A) A national news media feeds this blog, with squire is on FaceBook, going as far as Australia...Twitter...MySpace...YouTube and HI5 with "friends" of mine in 44 countries around the world, including Algeria, Albania, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Japan, Cyprus, UK, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Nepal, Chilie, Hong Kong, Kosovo and 30 more!
B) The Squire's Way is a unique, one of a kind collection of thoughts, witty humor (Otis P.T. Suggins), philosophies, history-mysteries, LOVE, inspirations, pats-on-the-backs, ADVENTURES, creative ideas, every day heroes (like you), schools that do and don't work and just plain honest telling "it" the way "it" is! 394- FATHIMA RIFQA BARY...17-YEAR-OLD HERO!!!!.....
She is the young lady who you've been reading about in the summer news. Rifqa "ran away" from her Columbus, Ohio, home, to Florida after converting from Islam to Christianity. Understanding the longtime historical background on "Honor Killing" practiced by the Islam faith, derived from the Koran, she feared that she indeed would be condemned to die for breaking from her family religion to Christianity. The big problem involves the court system, since she is just months away from becoming 18! She was asking for emancipation from that juvenile court law to become legally on her own. One of my many lesson plans in American government involved this subject. Basically, she would ahve to prove that she had a suitable residence and be order to support herself.
Another legal point involves jurisdiction: Florida, now, or Ohio. Each state may have different legal theories.
She hid her Christianity conversion from her parents, Mohamed and Aysha, even her Bible.
A new problem has entered the larger picture in recent weeks. Her father cannot substaniate his legal residency as an American citizen. That also, then, would include Rifqa. She wasn't born here. Remember, she is just months away from her 18th birthday. And even if she did reach that magic age, she still may be deported for not being born here of the problem residency parents.
However....she could declare that, if she is sent back to Sri Lanka, her life would be in danger from the Islamic "rules" back there. I SUPPORT Rifqa 110%, with NO reservations! I'll be watching, over the next months, the outcome and WILL join many others in raising my voice!!!! How about YOU?

393- YES, WE SHOT AND HIT OUR ONLY MOON!...WHOOPEE!!!!....
MOON CRASH THRILLS NASA but not us! Anyway, how could they miss that huge target?
NASA's LCROSS mission ("Lunar Crater Observation & Sensing Satellite" - "L-Cross) was the official title, by the way. The scientific purpose was to look for some form of WATER in our Moon! The blasts sent particles up a mile of so in sray pattern. Now, the scientists are studying the "spray pattern for any signs of water particles!
The neat Hubble Space telescope initially has shown no signs of water, but the venture data decision is still out, being studied.
I've submitted a governmental form to ask for money to study the effects of elected officials who LIE in our hallowed U.S. Congress on Capital Hill! My request is in for $337,007. And I promise to use every penny of this money once it arrives on November 28th!!
Thank heavens that NASA didn't miss...I think....

A great example: was in a grocery store parking lot recently. A pissant was blaring forth with the crass and vulgar "f**k", very loud, and directed at a woman. He could be heard all around the lot. I asked him politely to stop it! he then grew louded and dept shouting that he had a "right" to say anything that he wanted to say. As a former American government educator, I knew that he indeed was breaking a public law! And proceeded to call 911, asking for help. When the sheriff arrived quickly, the pissant contined to spew forth his garbage.
And the officer proceeded to handcuff him and cart him away in a paddy wagon. Bye bye, ignorant pissant!

Later tonight, and early tomorrow morning, will continue to rewrite, onto WORD, the 600+ pages of my first novel, THE SERPENTINE BOND! THAT venture is my absolute and total MISSION above all else.....
One coming up will share my adventures and history of a most unique old plantation in ruins...ROSEWELL!...in York County, York River area. The adventure begins while studying a summer at William and Mary and now, with trips across the river to explore Rosewell. (Coming....)

390- JEWEL...TAYLOR SWIFT...BOTH HEROES, A NOTCH ABOVE THE BESTEST OF HEROES!!!.....
a) Jewel, the writer, composer and singer!
If you knew just half of what kind of personal character she has developed and maintained, though perserverance, you would fall in like with her! What respect and admiration this guy has for JEWEL! A bit of revelation, you ask? She was living in her car...someone stole her car when she was out....that's about as low as a person can fall.... However, she NEVER gave up.
b) Taylor Swift...as a munchkin, she moved from Pa. to Tn. and was ignored by the other students during her early high school years. She, many nights, was devastated and turned to learning to pay the guitar and writing her own songs, at 13, to explain how she felt. Funny, those songs, today, have made her famous, millions liking them...and her.
By the way, back in those very early years, she would sing wherever she got a chance! She WAS...on a mission!!

389- ANOTHER HERO...IN THE BRONX!.....
Horia Cretan...heard screams above his store in the Bronx. He ran out, looked up and saw smoke bellowing out of a fourth-floor...and more screams!
He climbed up the fire escape, pulled out a little boy, after a fireman shouted for him to help, The little boy was unconscious. Horia carried him out on the fire escape, away from the smoke filled room and administered CPR, saving the little boy's life. All of this was, unbeknownst to Horia, was being filmed by someone down below!
WAIT! "Good Morning America", this week, invited him to be on their show, where he proposed in front of New York, to his girlfriend.
Oh, forgot...she said "YES!"
